Bobby will be missed by
many. Unfortunately I did not get to to know Bobby until our 30th year Reunion event. I met him at the Elks Club
warm up party and he worked so hard as our bartender to make sure we were all happy.He was a good natured fellow with a great sense of humor. The news of his passing surprised and saddened us all. |

A special message from John Gaffney who was best friends with Bobby Byrne.
On behalf of Bobby Byrne's family, and myself, thanks again for the turnout at his services and the good wishes that were extended during the past month and a half. I know the initial obits requested that money be sent to the St. Mary's football program, where Bobby coached with Mike Sheridan for the last ten years. Mike and the entire team turned out for Bobby's wake and funeral. It might seem a bit odd for us to donate to St. Mary's as the rival from up the street, but that's where Bobby directed his energies and interests.
So.....I called Mike Sheridan to see if we could get a bit more specific with donations in Bobby's name. Mike said the school has been trying to get enough money together from benefactors to build a weight room for the team. If you care to do so, we've set a very random goal of $5,000 which won't build a weight room, but it's a good effort. I've talked to Mike about a plaque in the room from us in Byrnsie's memory.
